OVERVIEW OF MENTAL HEALTH IN SPANISH SOCIETY

This research was carried out at a time of enormous complexity. In 2022, citizens were beginning to overcome the shock caused by the health crisis resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic and the period of confinement. The uncertainty was still evident, so we didn’t want to leave an angle unexplored.

A journey of co-creation in which we were accompanied by an enthusiastic Advisory Team made up of people who shared their own experience with mental health issues, associations and a psychiatrist and former senior health official. In each phase of the study, we receive their feedback, from methodological designs to the interpretation of results or the development of recommendations and strategic lines.

The research began with a qualitative approach in which we gave voice to the protagonists. We listen to people suffering from mental disorders of varying severity and age, and their families, psychiatrists, psychologists, physicians. That way, we ensure that we identified the relevant dimensions around the issue and avoid research biases.

And based on tremendously rich qualitative material, the research culminated in a population-based survey of 2,000 interviews, where society as a whole was surveyed, delving into the experience of people suffering from mental health problems.

The study had a high social and media impact.
